How Fleeting Is Life

It’s a reality that happens more often than we think about. Routine occurrences turning into final goodbyes. Today we were accosted with news of the passing of Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter, Gianna.

Kobe Bryant was a great basketball player who left his mark on a sport and its fans for years to come but that’s not the void left after today. The weight of this tragedy won’t be felt on a twitter post or comments on social media.

The weight of this tragedy will be felt in the empty seat at the head of the dinner table and the Father/Daughter dance where he will be missing.

The weight of this tragedy will be felt during girl time where a sister and best friend is no longer available for spa days and girl chats.

The weight of this tragedy will be felt in the heart of a mother who will struggle to find comfort in the loss of a child; her child, so prematurely.

The weight of this tragedy will be felt in the soul of a spouse who must now carry the family on both her shoulders while still in mourning. Walking a path carved for two that has been hastily diverged.

The weight of this tragedy is felt among the extended family – the mother, father, grandparents, aunts and uncles as they now live in what could be considered an alternate reality.

I write all this to say, don’t miss your opportunity to LOVE on your loved ones. It may be cliche, but tomorrow is not promised.

As a fan of Kobe Bryant’s, I hurt for his family.

As a wife, mother and daughter I mourn for his family.

The trajectory this accident has thrust the family is almost inconceivable – the patriarch and a child gone instantly. I pray they are surrounded by God’s light in the form of family and friends and that He keeps them covered as they walk into the blinders of their new reality.

Rest In Peace Kobe & Gianna
