DEFINING the Brand aka ME

As this blog post’s title would lead you to believe, today I set out to define my brand. As this is a personal blog that means defining me. What exactly does that mean?

Well as a newly certified social media influencer, it starts by finding your niche and your voice within that the subgroup. So basically what do I want to talk about and is there an audience for it? Once you define your niche then you have to determine your target audience. This is where it got interesting today…

Before we go any further though, let’s circle back to my new “certification”. As a self declared OCD personality – I simply couldn’t trust my instincts on the matter of defining and aligning my brand. I went to internet college and took a course called, “How to Become A Social Media Influencer.” To be honest, I did not know it was actually something that issued a certificate of completion when I signed up for the course. Apparently, there are companies that accept a course like this as continuing education or something.

Second point of honesty – as of the date of completion of the course and this post I am assuredly NOT a social media influencer. My level of influence is probably equal in measurement to the number of successful children bedtimes without issue I have clocked in my parenting career. But just like with bedtimes, my resilience knows no limits and who knows what my influencer status will be in the future lol.

Okay back on topic…so I’m establishing my brand. What do I want to say and who am I in the blogger world? Well that’s simple. I am a wife, mom, and overly involved PTA parent who occasionally throws a beautiful seasonal decor display together with the use of a mini glue gun. My message is live, learn and laugh through it all. Life is messy and that’s okay!

Awesome, what’s next? Who is my target audience, hmm… Lucky for me, my internet instructor had a very direct suggestion to tackle this. It was suggested to use a buyer persona generator tool to help figure this out. Now knowing my audience whomever y’all are, will not be buying items from me, I was already dealing with a learning curve. So I scoured the google search results for the most easy to use and bubbly looking persona generator.

A quick summary of these persona tools – they are quick and easy ways to gain insight on your audience by using cross sections of traits from all your demographic areas to help a company better cater its products and services to the market as a whole. Now for an established blogger or social media influencer, this can be very useful. For me, I created more so a “wishlist” of people I would like to follow me. Here’s what it looks like:

Does this persona sound familiar to you? I thought it would to some of us…

And to those of you firmly living in this under paid & over-extended Mom Life, WELCOME! This glass of wine is raised to YOU!

Let’s build something really special with this safe space. Let’s be honest, real and not always PC when necessary. I know some days you might want to drop your child off at the fire station. Been there, done that however it was my husband’s firehouse so he promptly brought them home. So trial & error moment, make sure the firehouse is in a different district than where you live – I joke but point being of all this, you are not alone in this.

That’s the beauty of this motherhood thing though isn’t it? As much as we may feel alone on our journey we never really are…

We just haven’t found our niche and audience yet.
